Insurance & Fees

Good news! At Fernwood Holistic Healthcare we believe in cost transparency in medicine!
Unless you are paying out of pocket, your costs will depend on your insurance coverage, so finding out your costs and fees may be dependent on you knowing your healthcare plan and coverage. Naturopathic Visits are typically covered by commercial insurance. Acupuncture visits are covered by some insurance companies, and also depends on your specific plan and which acupuncturist you see. Aesthetician services, CranioSacral therapy, Massage therapy, and infrared sauna sessions are paid out of pocket. We very strongly recommend all patients call their insurance company before their first visit to confirm they are covered. This is especially true for acupuncture visits. We advise you to call your insurance and ask the following questions:

1. Ask if you have acupuncture coverage as part of your plan.
2. Ask to specify how many visits you are allowed per year.
3. Ask if there are any diagnosis code exclusions (meaning do they only cover acupuncture for specific conditions?)

Remember that you will be responsible for any charges your insurance company doesn’t cover, so if it is important to you, you must call them to get as many details as you can about your coverage. We do not like surprising our patients with a bill they didn’t expect! So please help us, and help yourself, by calling your insurance provider ahead of time.

Insurances Dr. Krete is contracted with include:

• Aetna
• Anthem BCBS
• Cigna
• Connecticare Medicare for acupuncture only (typically 12 visits per year for chronic lower back pain are covered)
• Harvard Pilgrim (acupuncture coverage only)
• Oxford
• State United Healthcare Medicare Plans (cover both acupuncture and naturopathic office visits)

*Medicaid/Husky does not cover any naturopathic or acupuncture visits at this time. Husky will cover labs ordered by Naturopathic Physicians. Some Medicare plans will cover acupuncture specifically for chronic lower back pain only. 

Alicia De Martin, LAc is not contracted with any insurance companies at this time.  

If your insurance company is not on our list, or the provider in our office you would like to see is not in network, but your plan covers acupuncture or naturopathic office visits, we can give you a superbill to send in to your insurance company so you can get out of network reimbursement. This means you will pay at the time of service for your visit and we will provide you with the paperwork to send to your insurance provider. They will then reimburse you directly for all, or a portion of you visit, depending on your out of network coverage.
